Ladakh, has two different districts, Leh and Kargil; being on the high altitude has an another interesting fact of spotting rare wildlife. There are different areas where one can sight & spot different wildlife. India`s first National Park established north of the Himalaya range is the Hemis High Altitude National Park (HNP) was created in 1981. HNP; Beside being India`s best protected area for Snow leopard, Lynx, Wild dog, Wolf, and many others wild mountain sheeps and goats like blue sheep, Ladakhi urial and Tibetan Argali (the biggest sheep in the world) living within the park gives it international biodiversity a very importance space.
Chanthang area also has an abundance of exotic Wildlife, Kyang, (the wild ass), Dong (Wild Yak), Tibetan Antelope, Gazalle and huge number of birds like black Necked Crane, Tibetan Sangrouse and many more of rare birds are found in this region of Chanthang pleatue and Black Necked Crane is the State bird of J&K.
Wild asses are generally found grazing near Tsokar pastureland and they are seen in moving in flocks. Rare and exotic birds like headed goose, the migratory birds, black-necked crane, the great crested grebe, the Brahmini ducks are also found in the great Changthang area.
Pallas's Cat is the Rarest of rare the beautiful elusive carnivores cat is found in eastern part of Ladakh, the Changthang-Hanle,Shachukul and some other part of this region. Ladakh is the Capital Home for Snow Leopard, there are 100% chances of spoting Snow Leopard in Ladakh then anywhere in the World. Snow Leopard also spot in Spiti Valley, Sikkim, but the access and approach are quite difficult.
